This is a fine instrument. The grandeur or the reverberent acoustics occasionally retract from the crispness of the music played on it but that is the nature of really big organs. Bach is not optimally heard on this but Messien and Widor are wonderful. Even though this is the largest organ for 500 miles around, most of the pipes are in chambers with three tiny grates for the sound to emanate from. The original design which forbade the appearance of organ pipes and stained glass was unfortunate. Luckily renovations a decade ago brought some of the pipes out into where they can speak properly.
