I have never heard or played the organ in this church. It was built in 1940 by the St. Louis firm of Kilgen. Kilgen built a lot of instruments on the 20th century and went bankrupt in the late 1970's. The Kilgen sound is familiar to Catholic ears. "Tubby" is the musicians description of the soft and mellow sound of these instruments. The sound nicely filled large churches with a heavenly if somewhat uninteresting sound. The organ at The Cathedral Basilica on Lindell is a Kilgen that has been modified and expanded over the years. Kilgen's opus magnum is the organ at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City.
