Archbishop Raymond L. Burke and author, preacher, and Franciscan friar, Father Benedict Groeschel, will serve as the spiritual directors for a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Thursday, July 31, through Saturday, August 2. The pilgrimage has been planned in part to celebrate the solemn dedication of the of the Shrine, which takes place on the afternoon of July 31...
Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine was established by Archbishop Burke in 1998 when he was bishop of the Diocese of La Crosse. Situated on 100 acres of woodland overlooking the Mississippi River, the heart of the complex is the Shrine Church, designed by noted church architect Duncan Stroik. Of Romanesque design and surmounted by a large central dome, the church is constructed of native stone, which harmonizes the structure with its natural surroundings. In the transepts and along the side aisles of the church's interior are devotional areas, dedicated to our Lord and His Blessed Mother, and to the saints, especially Saint Joseph and Saint Juan Diego. Stained-glass windows depict the life of the Blessed Mother and titles of honor from the Litany of Loretto are etched in gold-leaf throughout the main floor.
