An elegant sailing ship, photographed on Lake Michigan in Chicago, Illinois, on August 2nd, 2003.The English word 'navy' comes from the Latin
navis, meaning ship. It is also from
navis that we get 'nave', the main body of a church where the laity worships.
A ship cannot be sailed according to whim, rather it must have an experienced, hardworking, courageous crew, the clear authority of a captain, and a good navigator who will direct the ship to its destination while avoiding rocks. If these are missing, all passengers will likely perish.
