The parish patron is Saint Gianna Beretta Molla (1922-1962), an Italian physician who sacrificed her own life in favor of her unborn child.
The temporary church is in a warehouse, but the parish is planning a new church. According to the parish website, on Friday, May 18th, at 7:00 p.m.,
Mr. Duncan Stroik, an architect and professor from Notre Dame to hear his ideas on Church and parish architecture and he will explain planning from an architect's point of view. As with all these experts, he is looking to hear from us, as well as impart information. The new shrine of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is being installed at the Cathedral Basilica, was designed by Mr. Stroik. The marble altars from the old Saint Philip Neri are reserved for the use of the new church.

I am happy to hear that Mr. Stroik will be the architect, because that means the church will be traditional!!
ReplyDeleteYes! He does such good work. He is the principal architect behind the new chapel at my alma mater, Thomas Aquinas College, and when it comes time to build my mansion, I must sign him up.

After Archbishop Burke left, the parish lost Dr. Stroik as architect and had to accept Chiodini Associates. The new building is not unlike what Dr. Stroik had proposed, if somewhat simple in finish and details, but a pleasant complex nonetheless. Dedication is set for Sunday, April 29, 2012.
