Note: the location of the Priory address as shown on the Google map is wrong. The Priory is a house located at the end of a long driveway leading up to the top of the hill just north of the round building shown on the map. The Passionist Nuns Chapel is located immediately to the west of Saint Claire of Assisi Church.
The Canons regularly celebrate Mass at the Passionist Nuns Chapel on Sundays at 9:45 a.m.; and that was where I attended this morning. Daily Mass is regularly celebrated at the Priory on weekdays at 7:00 a.m., and Vespers at 5:00 p.m.

Notes: Tenebrae, which are parts of the Divine Office for the last three days of Holy Week, starts at 4:00 A.M., in the dark EARLY MORNING hours. That is early, but you know you could make it if you tried. This liturgy is a long, sad funeral dirge for Christ, and has candles which are consecutively snuffed out, until the chapel is in complete darkness. Tenebrae is held at the Priory. Since the Canons do not have a church, there will be no Mass on Saturday. Easter Sunday Mass starts, exceptionally, at 10:30 a.m., which is 45 minutes later than the usual Sunday Mass.
My wife being ill, I took our four children to the Palm Sunday CRNJ Mass. It was beautiful, although I did wish Father Prior gave a short homily. He is so good at it. And I was surprised to hear the Passio in English, rather than chanted it in Latin, but given the restlessness of the kids (who have zilch experience with such things), it was a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to make it to Tenebrae at least once. My 16-year-old wants to go with me!
