Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows at Starkenburg, Missouri, on September 10th, 2006

The Fall pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows at Starkenburg, Missouri will be held on Sunday, September 10^th, starting at 10 a.m. Mass starts at 3 p.m. Dinner will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

This shrine was built by hand by the German parishioners in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It has a beautiful little stone chapel in the early Rhenish-Romanesque style, dating from 1910.

From April through November, the shrine has a Second Tuesday Mass at noontime; the next will be September 12^th. Pilgrimages are held on the 3^rd Sunday of May and the 2^nd Sunday of September.

The shrine is on the bluffs above the Missouri River, in the Missouri wine country, an area settled by German immigrants because of its resemblance to the Rhine River valley. Several wineries are nearby.

The Shrine is pastored from the Church of the Risen Savior, of the Diocese of Jefferson City. This parish was formed in 1979, merging the parishes of St. Martin's at Starkenburg and St. Joseph's at Rhineland.
