The Latin Liturgy Association conference in Saint Louis this weekend started with a tour of local churches. First stop was the
Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France, informally known as the Old Cathedral.
LLA members listen to a talk on the history of the church.
The Crucifixion painting is a copy of an original done by Diego Velázquez.
The painting of Louis IX was a gift by the King of France.

ReplyDeleteA New York Time article says that the painting was given by the restored Bourbon monarch Louis XVIII in 1818.

The church has a book for sale which goes into detail about the church's architecture and history. Also, a history of the church is posted in the narthex.
Excellent, and a bit of an accomplishment. He wasn't noted for being open-handed.
